PepsiCo donates R120 000 and bread to the victims of Jagersfontein dam burst
PepsiCo Sub-Saharan Africa together with Meals on Wheels Community Services (MOWCS) is donating R120 000 to the victims of the Jagersfontein Dam burst whose homes and belongings were swept away by the mud last month leaving everyone destitute.
This contribution will provide food parcels to 150 of the 250 displaced families. In addition to the food parcel, the SASKO Bloemfontein Bakery will be on-site to donate fresh loaves of bread to each family.
“As a leading food and beverage company in South Africa, we believe it is our responsibility to focus our social investment in areas where there is a dire need. We believe we can play an important role in providing essential food items to those affected by this disaster,” says SASKO Bloemfontein Bakery Manager, Andries Ferreira.
Over the past two years, PepsiCo Sub-Saharan Africa has partnered with MOWCS through food donation and financial grants as part of its objective to alleviate the hunger of our country’s people, on a sustainable basis.
PepsiCo aims to evolve and expand this community-centric approach, to advance long-term food security for people of all ages through collaboration with local partners around the world, by investing in solutions that increase equitable access to nutritious food and increase productivity and incomes of small-scale farmers.
“Though our reach is global, we understand that it takes the collaborative efforts of many to make real change in the local communities where we operate. We realise we can do even more when we join forces with non-profit organisations like MOWCS and our employees to make large-scale change,” Ferreira concludes.
